Freya, Cape Dory 28 #276 (1980)
Freya was my third boat. Owning a Pearson Triton had given me a strong appreciation for the graceful, sea-kindly designs of the famous naval architect, Carl Alberg. When the time came in 2012 to switch back to a smaller boat to replace the Gladiateur, I took the opportunity to revisit Alberg’s long list of “good old boats.” Among them, the Cape Dory 28 stood out as a quality vessel with a great reputation and a very active owners’ association. Cape Dorys can be a little difficult to find in the Bay Area since they were produced in Massachusetts. When a CD28 was listed for sale in Napa, I took the drive and eventually decided to purchase the boat, hull #276.
Freya had been somewhat neglected and required a substantial amount of work, which was actually a benefit since I was looking for a manageable “project boat.” Maintenance and improvements were documented on separate pages as the work progressed. I sold Freya in May 2020.
